Artist Profile
Maggie Gleeson Briscoe Penangk
For many years, I've harbored a longing to bridge the gap with my desert-based family. This remarkable journey led me to Alice Springs, where I had the privilege of encountering my Briscoe family hailing from Central Australia. It was during this time that I embraced my innate connection to the land and the profound ties to my ancestors. This coming together not only reignited familial bonds but also, through the realm of art, seamlessly linked me to my ancestral heritage, narratives, and native soil.
Raised in Adelaide, my soul is ignited by a fervent passion and an abiding affection for painting, often kindled by my adoration for vibrant hues. My inspiration is drawn from the profound narratives of the land and the cultural legacy of my indigenous kin.
When I engage in the act of painting, I find myself transported into the very heart of the narrative and the spectrum of colors, where they metamorphose into life on the canvas or chosen medium.
It is a privilege granted to me to depict certain facets of my cultural liaison through art, and I am deeply humbled to have the opportunity to unveil some strands of this intricate and profound tapestry of Australian history, hailing from the Anmatyerre First Nations people.
